Tenby & Ashburnham’s’ annual ladies match

	For the last 26 years the ladies from Tenby and Ashburnham Golf Clubs hold an annual foursomes competition and in all those years it has only had to be cancelled (due to rain) twice. The event was the brainchild of both Mary Rowell (Tenby) and the late Ann Lewis from Ashburnham and it is an occasion that both clubs look forward to as it cements the wonderful friendships that have been formed over the years.

	Thomas regains Seniors’ title

	Carmarthen's Vicki Thomas regained the Welsh Senior's Matchplay title during the latter days of May. Last year had been defeated by Ann Lewis of Royal St David's, Harlech, and this time was determined to reclaim her crown.

	New champion for the Ladies Welsh Closed

	The Ladies Welsh Closed Championship was held over the wonderful parkland Monmouthshire course near Abergavenny. The event took place in late May and was played in glorious conditions. The championship is a three-day event consisting of a 36-hole strokeplay qualifier followed by two days of match play.

In the recent qualifying round for the national Mail on Sunday competition the ladies from Coed-y-Mwstwr cruised to a resounding away victory over St Athan Golf Club. They won by a margin of 3.5 to 1.5. Hero of the hour was Jan Lord who stepped in at the last minute to replace the Captain Jill Davies (who had gone down with an upset stomach) and then marched to a 5&4 victory.

Coed-y-Mwstwr Golf recently held their qualifying round of the LGU Bowl. The winner of the Silver Division was Jill Davies and Jackie Summerton won the Bronze Division. Both Ladies progress to the area final, which will be held at Grove Golf Club early June.

	Kath Weare wins the Margaret Coles Trophy

	Raglan Parc Golf Club President, Mrs Dorothy Lillistone presented Mrs Kath Weare with the Margaret Coles Trophy for Best Gross' score of the Bronze Division at the recent County Championships. Mrs Kath Weare and Mrs Margaret Tranter both qualified to go forward to the Matchplay stages which was held at Pontypool Golf Club.

Lyn Lloyd had her first ever hole-in-one whilst playing in Pyle & Kenfig's Texas Scramble. Her ace was scored on the par three fifteenth.

	Ladies ‘Taster Days’ at Tenby

	Rhys Harry, who joined Tenby Golf Club last year, has really settled down into his role as Head Professional. With the encouragement and help with funding from Golf Development Wales and the Welsh Sports Council he recently held "Taster Days" for ladies and girls who were keen to try the game of golf. In his latest day he had over 40 ladies attend while he explained and showed the basics of the game to them. After this initial taster day any lady or girl who wishes to experience the game further will be given lessons over a six-week period.
