Wales' Becky Brewerton will go into her first ever Ladies European Tour event as defending champion when she tees it up in the Ladies English Open in July.

The 25-year-old who is one of the hottest properties in UK ladies golf at the moment secured her maiden tour victory at last year's event. She now goes to the Oxfordshire as one of the favourites and will be aiming to defend her title and gain her second tour victory.

However, Becky admits that she is she is still struggling to come to terms with her rise to fame in her native country after last year's victory saw her finish second behind boxing legend Joe Calzaghe in the Welsh Sports Personality of the Year Award. She said: "It was fantastic to just finish second behind him because golf is not the most massive sport in Wales. It still seems quite odd to me that my name is mentioned in the same breath as his because in Wales he is a national icon and an amazing character.

Becky also admits there will be more to think about this time round as defending champion having won last year at Chart Hills in Kent. She added: "I guess there is a little bit more pressure but with it being a new venue it will be a little different. It's not as if it is the same venue and I haven't been to The Oxfordshire before."

The Ladies English Open takes place from July 4-6 and is one of only two ladies' tour events to be played in England during 2008.
