James Zanotti: One for the future?

Most club golfers dream of becoming the Men's Club Champion when, in fact, relatively few will achieve this accolade. So when James Zanotti became Men's Club Champion at Llanwern Golf Club 2005, he had joined a small and very elite group of golfers. What was even more remarkable was that James was just 15 years of age at the time of his success. He had competed with, and, succeeded against some of the most experienced and successful golfers that the club has to offer, showing great maturity and ability under pressure.

James first picked up a golf club when he was 10 years of age and, under his father's encouragement, he could be found honing his skills at the local driving range. When he was 11 years of age his grandfather, who was a member at Llanwern Golf Club, suggested that it was time for him to take on the full golf course, and consequently he became a junior member of the club.

James' achievements in such a short period of time read like a wish list for most young golfers. Among his more notable performances have been: Runner-up - Wales Junior Open at Celtic Manor U18s Winner - South Wales Boys Spring Medal at Llandrindod Wells & South Wales Boys Player of the Year' Winner - Regional Qualifier of Wales Junior Open at St Pierre U18s Winner - Gwent Div 1 Order of Merit (Boys) Winner - Gwent Boys Matchplay Winner - Champion of Champions at Cradoc He has also represented Gwent Boys, the U16s and the Gwent 2nds.

The success that James has had in such a short period of time is a clear indication of the talent and composure that he possesses. And the Members of Llanwern Golf Club are very proud of what he has achieved and also of the manner in which he has conducted himself as an ambassador for the club. If he continues to develop his skills over the coming years, as he has in the early years of his golf, then James Zanotti will clearly be one to watch for the future.
